By Shannon Totaram

Mashramani celebrations are set to continue this weekend in the vibrant community of Kwakwani, as residents gear up for their segment of the parade.

Chairman of the Region Ten Tourism Committee, Devin Sears, announced that the festivities in Kwakwani will span over two days.

The excitement kicks off with Access J’ouvert, a lively event that promises a season of soca tailored for Kwakwani.

Sears elaborated on the schedule, stating, “Now, this is two days of activities starting on Friday the 22nd, whereby Access is going to be having their season of soca, Kwakwani edition j’ouvert, and that’s going to be happening at Scatter George Guest House.” He further added, “And then on Saturday the 23rd of March, we have that Kwakwani road parade and after fete. The location is as follows: it starts from the waterfront then makes its way all the way to Independence Square. Of course, there’s going to be judging for best costume, individual, group, and company costume.”

The road parade, slated to commence at 11 am, will feature participation from various associations and neighboring communities.

Sears expressed anticipation for the involvement of companies in the festivities, emphasizing the spirit of unity and camaraderie that defines Mashramani celebrations.

Mashramani, originally rooted in Linden, has evolved into a national celebration, with the largest festivities held in the capital city on February 23rd.

However, the spirit of Mashramani continues to thrive across Guyana, with subsequent celebrations held in various regions, including Kwakwani.

As Kwakwani prepares to join in the revelry, residents and visitors alike can look forward to a weekend filled with vibrant cultural displays, lively music, and the infectious energy of Mashramani.
