Kwakwani Basketball Court and Facilities Rehabilitated with ExxonMobil Support

Kwakwani’s community and youth have received a significant boost with the official handover of the newly renovated Annie G Court, along with an upgraded spectator stand and changing room.

The project was supported by ExxonMobil as part of its commitment to youth empowerment and community development.

The refurbished basketball court, named after the renowned local coach Ann Gordon, will serve as a key facility for the Kwakwani basketball team, “Untouchables,” who have been actively participating in tournaments and making strides in the sport.

The court’s enhancement will provide the team and the wider community with better preparation spaces and the opportunity to host local competitions.

ExxonMobil representatives, regional and local leaders, and community members attended the handover event.

The company’s involvement underscores its focus on investing in projects that support youth and community growth, demonstrating a commitment to corporate social responsibility.

In addition to the court, the upgraded spectator stand has been named the “Dave Causeway Stand” to honor the late Coach Dave Causeway, who was instrumental in advocating for the facility’s improvements.

The renovations are expected to foster an environment where local athletes can further develop their skills, paving the way for higher achievements in the sport.

The project in Kwakwani is part of a broader initiative by ExxonMobil, which has undertaken similar renovations at basketball courts in Buxton, East Coast Demerara, Good Fortune, Essequibo Coast, and Retrieve, Linden, reflecting the company’s ongoing support for sports infrastructure development across Guyana.

The renovated facilities are set to enhance the community’s engagement in sports, offering a modern and well-equipped environment that benefits athletes and spectators alike.
