The Kurupukari/Annai segment of the Linden to Lethem Trail has reopened to light traffic following prompt actions to address infrastructural issues, including the repair of significant erosion caused by heavy rainfall.
Less than 48 hours after its closure, the Ministry of Public Works has restored vehicular access to the Number 3 bridge on the Kurupukari to Lethem trail.
Swift assessments and emergency repairs were conducted to facilitate this reopening.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill, in an interview with NCN News, stated that contractors were instructed to widen channels to improve water discharge and that MMC has been actively stockpiling materials for the comprehensive repair of the washout bridge.
Minister Edghill clarified that while the trail is now accessible to light traffic, it remains closed to trucks and other heavy-duty equipment due to flood advisories.
He emphasized the need to wait for water levels to recede before allowing trucks to traverse the area, highlighting the engagement of the Guyana Police Force for traffic control.
The Ministry assures that further updates will be provided as repair and restoration efforts continue along the Kurupukari/Annai stretch of the trail.
