This December, some of the region’s best student-athletes will compete in the annual KFC Goodwill Series.
The tournament, now in its fifth year, will feature eight teams, with four coming from outside Guyana.
Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca highlighted that the series aims to foster a “true Caribbean tournament” atmosphere, showcasing top-level school football.
The tournament format divides teams into two groups of four, leading to a round-robin phase.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, culminating in the grand finale on December 22.
Head of the Allied Arts Unit at the Ministry of Education, Nicholas Fraser, commended the organizers for their dedication to sports development, and Assistant Director of Sport Franklyn Wilson noted the tournament’s positive influence on youth players.
The action kicks off on December 15, with four matches daily during the early stages.
Last year’s champion, Clarendon College from Jamaica, is expected to return, adding to the excitement of this year’s Caribbean competition.
