In the latest round of action in the KFC Goodwill International Football Tournament, St. Ignatius, St. Clarendon Benedict’s College High, and VW04 Secondary Schools emerged victorious, securing their spots in the semifinals.
In a match against Trinidad and Tobago’s St. Benedict’s College, local Digicel school football champions, Carmel Secondary, faced a tough challenge, ending on the losing side.
St. Benedict’s took the lead with a Malachai Webb strike just 12 minutes into the game.
Despite Carmel’s attempts to equalize, they missed out on opportunities.
St. Benedict’s extended their lead with two more goals from Webb in the 38th and 50th minutes, sealing a three-nil victory.
The opening match of the day witnessed St. Ignatius defeating Bartica Secondary 4-2.
At the Minister of Education ground, DC Caesar Fox engaged in a hard-fought matchup with Surinamese unit VW04, losing 4-3.
In the feature clash, Jamaican side Clarendon High secured a two-nil victory against Chase Academy, with goals from Daniel Clark and Terron Williams in the 30th and 89th minutes.
The tournament now progresses to the semifinals scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, featuring Clarendon College against VWO4 and Chase Academy against St. Benedict’s College.
The action kicks off at 18:00 at the Ministry of Education ground.
