The Guyana Association of Women Lawyers (GAWL) has elected a new Executive Committee to serve for the 2026–2027 fiscal year following its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Attorney-at-Law Keshia Chase, who has been admitted to practise law in Guyana for the past 15 years, was unanimously elected President of the Association.
Joining Chase on the newly elected Executive Committee are Tyra Bakker, Vice President, Odessa James, Treasurer, Hannifah Jordan, Secretary, and Nickesha Bacchus, Assistant Secretary Treasurer.
The Association also elected four Committee Members: Joan Ann Edghill-Stuart, Zanna Frank, Lyndel Johnson and Merissa Bryan.
The newly elected Executive has pledged to continue advancing GAWL’s mandate of promoting the rule of law, advocating for the rights of women, and strengthening access to justice for vulnerable members of society.
GAWL has long played an active role in legal advocacy, public education, and initiatives aimed at improving access to justice while championing legal reforms that support equality and the protection of human rights in Guyana.
