Guyana’s national U-17 football team, the Junior Jaguars, secured their first victory in the Concacaf U-17 Men’s Qualifiers with a 3-0 win over St. Maarten on Tuesday evening in Costa Rica.

The result moves Guyana into second place in Group B with four points, behind Costa Rica, which leads the group with six points.

The Junior Jags entered the match aiming to secure their first win after drawing 1-1 against Trinidad and Tobago in their opening fixture.

They dominated possession early in the game, creating multiple scoring opportunities but initially failing to convert their chances.

In the 18th minute, Shaquan David found the net, giving Guyana a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The team continued its strong performance in the second half, with Quaency Fraser scoring in the 56th minute, followed by a 73rd-minute goal from Jaden Harris, sealing a comfortable victory.

With this result, the Junior Jags now turn their attention to their next match against Costa Rica on Thursday.

The team’s coaching staff has emphasized the need for continued focus and improvement as they prepare to face the tournament hosts, who currently sit at the top of the group standings.

The match between Guyana and Costa Rica is scheduled to kick off at 21:00 hrs.
