Guyana’s National Hockey Men’s team had tough opening day losses when they came up against top sides USA and Argentina in the 2024 edition of the Pan American Indoor Cup being played in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Guyana’s cricket team, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, struggled to capitalize on a favorable batting surface, posting a modest total of 107 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

While Shabika Gajnabi got off to a promising start with 13 runs, the team failed to build substantial partnerships.

Mandy Mangru top-scored with 36 runs, followed by Shemaine Campbelle contributing 33 runs.

However, no other batter managed to reach double figures, resulting in a below-par total.

Jamaica’s bowlers put up a disciplined performance, with Stefanie Taylor and Chinelle Henry leading the attack.

Taylor claimed 2 wickets for 12 runs, while Henry picked up 2 wickets for 22 runs. Vanessa Watts and Neisha-Ann Waisome also chipped in with a wicket each, restricting Guyana to a modest total.

In response, Jamaica chased down the target comfortably, reaching 108 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 18.1 overs.

Rashada Williams played a pivotal role with a knock of 42 runs, supported by Stefanie Taylor’s contribution of 33 runs.

Their partnership guided Jamaica to a comprehensive 5-wicket victory.

Despite efforts from bowlers Sheneta Grimmond and Nyia Latchman, who claimed a pair of scalps each, Guyana couldn’t defend their total effectively against Jamaica’s batting lineup.

In other matches of the day, Trinidad and Tobago secured a nine-wicket victory over Leeward Islands, while Windward Islands defeated Barbados by 12 runs.

At the end of the second round, Jamaica leads the standings with nine points, followed by Leeward Islands and Trinidad and Tobago jointly in second place with five points each.

Guyana occupies the fourth position with a win and a loss.

Overall, Jamaica’s dominant performance against Guyana solidifies their position at the top of the standings in the CWI Women’s T20 Blaze tournament.
