Vice President and PPP General Secretary, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, has rejected the opposition’s criticisms of Budget 2025, calling them a “lazy response” to a well-thought-out fiscal document.
According to Jagdeo, the opposition’s remarks are nothing more than “dimwitted and comical,” failing to provide any substantive analysis.
In his comments, Dr. Jagdeo criticized the opposition’s approach of offering theoretical solutions that do not reflect the real challenges the country faces.
He particularly pointed to the opposition’s emphasis on one-off cash grants, which he described as a sign of the opposition’s economic policy to “share out what we don’t have.”
“Rather than developing the country, they’re focusing on distributing funds without any clear long-term strategy,” Jagdeo stated.
The government’s position will be further defended in the upcoming budget debates, which are set to begin on Friday, January 24.
Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that the ruling party’s MPs are well-prepared to present the final and most ambitious budget of their term in office.
