Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), has called out sections of the media for distorting the realities of the National Toshaos Council (NTC) Conference 2024.
During a party press conference today, Jagdeo responded to recent negative coverage from the Amerindian People’s Association (APA) and other critics.
Jagdeo criticized media outlets for elevating the APA’s criticisms while disregarding the overwhelmingly positive feedback received from the over 200 Toshaos who attended the conference.
He emphasized that the conference was a significant success and a model of good governance, providing an unprecedented level of engagement and consultation with Indigenous leaders.
Addressing concerns about his comments regarding the carbon credits funds, Jagdeo clarified that the statement was in line with the Low Carbon Development Strategy.
He asserted that Amerindian leaders are fully involved in agreements affecting their lands and that opting out is a part of their rights.
