Jagdeo Anticipates Election Fraud Case May Reach Caribbean Court of Justice

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), has suggested that the ongoing election fraud case might eventually be taken to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

At a press conference on Wednesday, Jagdeo criticized the defense lawyers for their repeated objections, which he argues have been successful in delaying the trial’s progress.

Jagdeo expressed frustration with the defense’s tactics, which he claims have obstructed the trial.

Despite recent attempts to block the proceedings being dismissed by the acting Chief Justice, the case has now advanced to the Magistrates Court.

Jagdeo highlighted that if the case is brought before the CCJ, it will be essential for all testimonies and evidence to be fully accessible.

He also stressed the importance of accurate media reporting on the trial.

Additionally, Jagdeo mentioned the government’s intention to invite the diplomatic community to observe the court proceedings due to their interest in the case.

The election fraud case, which began on July 29, 2024, involves allegations of irregularities during the 2020 general elections.

The trial is expected to run until September 13.
