Isai Thorne Returns to West Indies U19 World Cup Squad

Cricket West Indies has revealed the squad for the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scheduled to take place in South Africa from January 19 to February 11, 2024.

Notable among the Guyanese players selected is Isai Thorne, a right-handed bat and right-arm fast bowler who represented the West Indies in the previous World Cup and made his first-class debut earlier this year, securing 12 wickets in two matches with an average of 6.16 per wicket.

The squad, captained by Stephan Pascal, includes Nathan Sealy as Vice-Captain.

The 15-member team comprises most players who participated in the Sri Lanka tour for three Youth One-Day Internationals and two four-day “Test” matches in August and September.

Three players from the 2022 ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup held in the West Indies are also included in the squad: Isai Thorne, Nathan Edward (left-handed all-rounder), and Jordan Johnson (left-handed batter).

The selected players have gathered in Antigua for a one-week camp at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

The camp will include training, fitness sessions, planning meetings, and personal development workshops to prepare the team for the upcoming World Cup.

Isai Thorne’s return to the U19 squad reflects his promising talent and contributions to West Indies cricket, and his participation will be key in the team’s quest for success in the upcoming tournament.
