The Guyana Police Force is currently probing the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of 66-year-old Jaggat Narine, who lost his life in a road accident on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred on the Number 64 Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 19:15, involved two motorcycles.
According to reports, a motorcycle with an unknown registration was traveling along the Number 64 Public Road at a high rate of speed when Narine, riding his motorcycle, pulled out from an access road onto the public road.
This maneuver led to a collision between the two motorcycles, causing both drivers to fall onto the road surface and sustain injuries.
Sahadeo Narine, the son of the deceased, recounted the events leading up to the accident to the media. He revealed that he received a phone call informing him of his father’s accident.
Upon arriving at the scene, he found his father lying motionless on the road.
Despite efforts by bystanders and law enforcement officials to assist, Jaggat Narine succumbed to his injuries.
According to Sahadeo Narine, his father had left home to visit a restaurant in the area to purchase food when the tragic accident occurred.
The driver of the other motorcycle involved in the collision was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he received medical treatment and was admitted for observation.
The body of Jaggat Narine has been transported to the mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation into the accident.
As authorities continue their investigation, the community mourns the loss of Jaggat Narine, and questions linger regarding the circumstances that led to the tragic collision on the Number 64 Public Road.
