The opening night of the One Guyana King and Queen of the Sand Beach Football tournament in Linden witnessed intense action, with thrilling matches keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.
Action kicked off on Saturday night at the Compound of the PPP/C Office in Linden, where the energy was palpable as teams clashed in fierce competition.
In a riveting encounter, UDK ballers faced off against Golden Stars.
Kevin Charles scored for Ballers in the 7th minute, but Golden Star’s Kenneth James quickly responded in the 10th minute, followed by Tyrese Shultz in the 19th minute, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Deandre Wilson’s goal in the 20th minute leveled the score at 2-2, before Withland Thom secured victory for UDK ballers with a goal in the 34th minute, sealing a 3-2 win.
In another match, Speightland boys were defeated 3-nil by Pro Ballers, with Jermain Beckles, Shacka Grenville, and Jose Dapas all finding the net.
Fearless emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Wiz Ballers.
Despite Malik McLean’s early goal for Wiz, Selwin Barnes, Darrel Profit, and Devon Gilbert ensured Fearless claimed the victory.
Hururu Boys triumphed over Rockstone with a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Lynton Osbourne.
The female team from Hururu also impressed, securing a 1-0 victory over Rockstone with Alicia Fredericks scoring the game’s only goal.
Upcoming playing nights are scheduled for Friday, April 19, 21, 24, and 29, with the grand finale set for Sunday, May 5. Male teams are competing for a top prize of $1,000,000, while the ladies play for the $400,000 grand prize.
