India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is set to arrive in Guyana on November 19 for a State Visit, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana since 1968.

This visit, at the invitation of President Ali, is expected to further enhance the strong ties between the two nations and open new avenues for cooperation.

The visit will focus on expanding collaboration in areas such as energy, agriculture, technology, innovation, and defense.

Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud highlighted that the trip provides an opportunity to explore synergies and enhance cooperation in the private sector, making the relationship between the countries even more dynamic.

Persaud also noted the significance of the visit for Guyana, stating that it is a recognition of the country’s growing influence on the global stage.

He emphasized that the visit underscores Guyana’s increasing importance in global affairs.

During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will engage in bilateral talks with President Ali, co-chair the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown with other CARICOM leaders, and address the National Assembly.

He will also interact with the Indian Diaspora in Guyana and offer a floral tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Promenade Garden.
