Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Begins Historic State Visit to Guyana

The highly anticipated visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Guyana officially begins today, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 56 years.

This historic state visit is set to strengthen the growing relationship between India, Guyana, and CARICOM, with a focus on transformative bilateral collaboration.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to engage in discussions and sign several agreements across various sectors.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali outlined key areas of cooperation, including military collaboration, agriculture, agro-processing, technology transfer, energy, and climate change.

The two nations will also focus on developing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and manufacturing.

Prime Minister Modi will attend several high-level forums, including addressing the second CARICOM-India Summit.

He will engage with leaders at State House, make an address at the Guyana Parliament, and participate in cultural events by visiting schools and historic monuments that celebrate the shared history and strong cultural ties between India and Guyana.

The Guyana Police Force has announced road closures to ensure security during the visit.

Starting November 20, no vehicles will be allowed around the Marriott Hotel from 9:00 AM, and from 6:00 PM, roads around Carmichael, Middle, New Market, and Main Street near State House will be closed.

The following day, November 21, there will be closures near the Arthur Chung Conference Centre from 8:30 AM, with further restrictions around Promenade Gardens, Indian Arrival Gardens, and the National Cultural Centre.

This visit underscores the importance of strengthening ties between India and Guyana, with both nations poised to collaborate on several key initiatives to foster mutual growth and prosperity.
