Increasing Access to Quality Education in Region One

By Delicia Janneire

The Ministry of Education is actively improving access to quality education in Region One through initiatives focused on building new schools and training more teachers.

Minister Priya Manickchand has emphasized the government’s commitment to these efforts, highlighting ongoing construction projects for five new schools: North-West Secondary School, Hosororo Secondary School, Kwebanna Secondary School, Matthew’s Ridge Secondary School, and Waramuri Secondary School.

During a recent visit, Minister Manickchand updated parents on these projects and announced significant upgrades planned for schools in the Port Kaituma District.

To ensure these new schools are adequately staffed, Minister Manickchand emphasized the training of additional secondary education teachers.

She also underscored the government’s support for teachers, including free training and increased stipends from $10,000 to $90,000 per month to facilitate their professional development.

Children in communities like Waramuri, Kwebana, North-West, Hosororo, and Matthew’s Ridge will soon have better access to secondary education closer to their homes, enhancing educational opportunities in Region One.
