Increased Interest in Guyanese Citizenship Reflects Opportunities and Growth

Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn revealed during a recent media conference that there has been a significant surge in the number of individuals applying for Guyanese citizenship, with many having Guyanese ancestry.

Minister Benn attributed the growing interest in Guyanese citizenship to the abundant opportunities and overall growth across various sectors in the country.

The Immigration Support Services Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs has reported a notable increase in citizenship applications.

Minister Benn, in a statement, highlighted the substantial number of individuals expressing a desire to become Guyanese citizens, either through naturalization or other means.

Currently, 355 individuals are in the process of naturalization and registration, according to Minister Benn.

He noted that a significant portion of these applicants has familial connections to Guyana and is applying for citizenship from different parts of the world.

For those applying based on descent, Minister Benn mentioned that 632 individuals fall into this category.

These applicants are typically children of Guyanese descent residing in countries such as the United States, Canada, and Venezuela.

The Immigration Support Services Department plays a pivotal role in facilitating the processing and issuance of various types of visas, including those for visitors, business, students, and employment, thereby contributing to the overall immigration processes in Guyana.
