The first-ever Guyana Football Federation-Blue Water Shipping Under-15 Girls’ National Secondary School Championship was officially launched on Wednesday, heralding the commencement of Guyana’s largest girls’ football tournament.

From May 4 onwards, over one thousand student athletes from sixty schools nationwide will partake in the championship.

This event marks the initiation of the FIFA Football For School (F4S) program’s competition phase.

Notably, sixty out of one hundred and sixteen public schools will be represented this season, with plans to expand participation to more schools over the next four years.

In a brief statement, Guyana Football Federation President Wayne Forde emphasized that the U15 girls’ championship serves as the foundation for cultivating a robust women’s football program in the country.

Richard DeNobrega, Senior Vice President of Sales and Development at Blue Water Shipping, expressed the company’s commitment to ensuring the advancement of women’s football.

He highlighted their involvement in the championship as a step towards realizing the true potential of the women’s game in Guyana.

The national championship places a strong emphasis on player development, guaranteeing each participant a minimum of six matches, with the opportunity to compete in up to sixteen.

Exceptional performers will be identified for further training within the national team program.

The launch of this championship signals a significant milestone in the development of women’s football in Guyana, promising to provide valuable opportunities for young female athletes across the nation.
