The upgrade of the existing hand pump well with a photovoltaic (PV) system for residents of Fort Island, located along the Essequibo River in Region Three, promises to provide a reliable supply of drinking water to approximately 120 residents in 33 households.

The new PV system will comprise two submersible pumps, a well master, control switch, solar panels, lightning arrester, level float, overhead storage, and a short distribution system.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, announced that this intervention will bring immediate relief to the community.

Moreover, a distribution network and standpipes will be installed, ensuring access to potable water for residents and visitors alike, starting as early as next week.

Regional Chairman of Region Three, Inshan Ayube, underscored the significance of such interventions, highlighting the government’s commitment to community development regardless of geography.

He emphasized that no community will be left behind, and Minister Croal’s presence on Fort Island late into the night exemplifies this commitment.

Beyond Fort Island, investments are being made in water treatment plants along the coastland from Charity to Crabwood Creek, expanding treated water access.

Minister Croal and his team also inspected the water supply system in the community, underscoring the government’s proactive approach to improving water access and infrastructure across Guyana.

This upgrade marks a significant step towards ensuring access to clean and reliable drinking water for the residents of Fort Island, aligning with broader efforts to enhance water infrastructure and promote community development nationwide.
