IGG 56 opens in Suriname- Guyana sends 171 athletes

The 56th edition of the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) commenced on Thursday evening in Suriname, with Acting President Ronnie Brunswijk extending best wishes to the participating junior athletes.

Brunswijk urged them to recognize their roles as sports ambassadors in the region.

In this report, it was revealed that Guyana has sent a contingent of 171 athletes to participate in various sporting disciplines at the IGG.

The games feature competitions in Chess, Futsal, Football, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, and Athletics.

Guyana’s Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, commended the host nation for its presentation at the games.

Ninvalle highlighted the longstanding bonds that have developed over the years among Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana.

The Inter Guiana Games foster mutual respect and collaboration in the regional sports arena.

French Guiana’s Director of Sport and Youth Affairs, Elodie Arras, emphasized the importance of the Inter Guiana Games in promoting mutual respect among the participating nations.

The Inter Guiana Games made a triumphant return in 2022 after a five-year hiatus, with Guyana hosting the event.

The games serve as a platform for athletes to showcase their talents in various sports and strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation among the Guiana countries.
