ICC T20 World Cup Launches 100 Days to Go Campaign

The organizers of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup initiated their “100 Days to World Cup” campaign with a series of events launched across the region.

In Guyana, the local organizing committee, led by cricket superstar Shamar Joseph at MovieTowne, hosted their event themed ‘Out of This World.’

The 9th edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA from June 1st to 29th.

The semi-finals will take place in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, with the final scheduled for Barbados.

The launch event in Guyana featured West Indies hero Shamar Joseph, who recently excelled against Australia.

President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Bissondyal Singh, expressed optimism about the local team’s chances, emphasizing the presence of several local players in the squad, suggesting they have the potential to cause upsets on home soil.

The Caribbean last hosted the tournament in 2010. Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., highlighted the significance of Guyana’s involvement in the region’s top sport, emphasizing that the sport is not complete without Guyana’s participation.

Guyana is also set to host five group stage matches. These matches will feature the home team, West Indies, playing against Papua New Guinea on June 2nd and Uganda on June 8th.

Additionally, other matches scheduled in Guyana include Afghanistan versus Uganda on June 3rd, Papua New Guinea against Uganda on June 5th, and New Zealand versus Afghanistan on June 7th.

West Indies are placed in Group C, along with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea.
