Hururu Hydras and Mabaruma Women Crowned Champions at RBL One Guyana ‘B’ Division Volleyball Tournament

The Hururu Hydras and Mabaruma women’s volleyball team emerged victorious at the inaugural Republic Bank One Guyana ‘B’ Division Volleyball Tournament, showcasing exceptional skill and determination in the finals.

The tournament, which saw 49 male and female teams from eight regions across Guyana compete, culminated in a thrilling finale held at the National Gymnasium.

In the men’s division, Hururu Hydras claimed the title after a dramatic comeback in the final.

Facing off against the Port Mourant Training Center, Hururu lost the first two sets 19-25 and 21-25 but rallied to win the next three sets 25-22, 25-21, and 15-13, clinching the overall win.

Hururu Hydras secured a cash prize of $300,000 for their efforts.

Port Mourant, who placed second, received $200,000, while Alpha Volleyball Club and Bartica took third and fourth place, respectively, with prizes of $150,000 and $100,000.

Kelon Phillips of Hururu Hydras was named the MVP of the men’s tournament.

In the women’s division, Mabaruma triumphed over Lethem in a hard-fought three-set final.

The sets ended 30-28, 25-21, and 25-19 in favor of Mabaruma, who took home the $300,000 cash prize.

Lethem, who finished second, received $200,000.

Siparuta Falcons and Bartica Warriors A rounded out the top four, with third place earning $150,000 and fourth place receiving $100,000.

Lianna Gilkes of Mabaruma was named the women’s MVP.

The event’s closing ceremony saw presentations from Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr., Assistant Director of Sport Franklin Wilson, Chairman of the National Sports Commission Kashif Mohammed, and Republic Bank’s Marketing and Communications Manager Jonelle Dummett.

The Republic Bank One Guyana Volleyball Tournament was made possible through the bank’s Social Investment Program, “The Power to Make a Difference,” in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport.

This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of Guyana’s volleyball community but also reinforced the importance of social investment in the country’s sporting development.
