In a heartwarming display of solidarity, hundreds of individuals gathered at Camp Road outside the Everest Cricket Ground at 6 am on Sunday to kick off the annual GTT Pinktober Walk.
Participants, donned in various shades of pink, came together from all walks of life to show their support for breast cancer awareness.
Organized by the telephone giant GTT, the event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer, pay tribute to survivors, and commemorate those who bravely fought the disease.
The streets of Georgetown were awash in a vibrant sea of pink, symbolizing the community’s unwavering commitment to the battle against breast cancer.
Participants shared their sentiments, emphasizing the significance of supporting such a vital cause.
They expressed that the Pinktober Walk/Run/Move race serves as a beautiful reminder that breast cancer survivors are not alone, and together, they are stronger.
Lachmie Lall, Director of NCD & Mental Health at the Ministry of Health, expressed her delight.
Seleyna Headley-Smith, representing the food and nutrition policy department of the Ministry of Health, expressed her support for the cause and Andrew Belle, a representative from JCL Guyana, commended the turnout.
GTT’s Senior Manager for PR & Corporate Communication, Jasmine Harris-Smith, extended thanks to the Cancer Society and sponsors, including competitor DIGICEL, for their support in the fight against breast cancer. She emphasized the importance of early detection and education in the battle against the disease.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, GTT also hosted a health fair at the Everest Cricket Ground.

Pinktober, observed during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and standing in solidarity with those facing the battle.
The theme for Pinktober 2023 is “Many Hands, Caring Hearts.”
