Hundreds of small contractors from Linden participated in a pre-qualification exercise hosted by the Ministry of Public Works at the Watooka Guest House on Friday.

This initiative, part of the government’s miscellaneous road program, aims to involve local contractors in the construction of over $7 billion worth of road projects in Region 10.

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, led the engagement, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity by subdividing road projects to ensure small contractors have an active role.

The exercise continues a similar effort initiated last year to enhance infrastructure while supporting local livelihoods.

To further facilitate the involvement of small contractors, including women and young people, the government has temporarily paused the tendering process.

Contractors who meet the pre-qualification criteria will be awarded contracts during an upcoming exercise next week.

Since 2020, under the People’s Progressive Party administration, the number of small contractors in Region 10 has significantly increased, reflecting the government’s efforts to empower local communities and boost economic growth.

This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to improving the infrastructure and livelihoods of Guyanese across the country.
