Human Services Ministry Expands Reach for Justice Successes

The Human Services Ministry in Guyana is actively promoting its Family Act Bill as part of its commitment to humanitarian justice values.

Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud has disclosed that the ministry is not only focused on national legislation but is also exploring avenues to extend its service boundaries internationally.

With the Family Act Bill poised to reach the parliament table with hopes of becoming legislation, Minister Persaud emphasizes the ministry’s ongoing efforts to educate individuals on participating in the justice process effectively.

She underscores the importance of providing real protection to those in need and ensuring a clear understanding of the law, especially concerning protection orders.

Minister Persaud acknowledges that there are instances where individuals deviate from the path of prosecution for various reasons.

The ministry aims to empower people to comprehend the significance of protection orders, both for those seeking protection and for perpetrators who may violate such orders.

The minister expresses hope for the amendment of bills related to childcare, abduction, and the protection of children.

This initiative aligns with the forthcoming implementation of international adoption regulations, effective from the end of January.

Minister Persaud stresses the importance of compliance with the Hague Convention, enabling access to assistance in dealing with cases of child abduction beyond Guyana’s borders.

The Hague Convention on the Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Inter-country Adoption is an international agreement designed to safeguard inter-country adoptions.

It provides an expeditious method for the return of a child wrongfully taken from one country to another by a parent.

In summary, the Human Services Ministry’s proactive approach aims not only to strengthen domestic legislation but also to engage with international standards, ensuring justice and protection for all individuals, especially in cases involving children.
