Hinterland Regions Benefit from New Water Wells, Improving Access to Potable Water

In a significant development for hinterland communities, a total of 56 new water wells have been completed, improving access to clean and potable water for over 15,000 residents.

This milestone marks the first time many of these communities will have reliable access to clean water, greatly benefiting hundreds of families.

Minister Within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Hon. Susan Rodrigues, highlighted this achievement during a year-end press conference.

She announced that an additional $2.1 billion had been invested in 2024 to further enhance water supply systems in the hinterland regions.

Minister Rodrigues emphasized the government’s improved efficiency in well drilling activities, allowing for better service delivery through the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).

The government’s collaboration with local village councils was also praised, with efforts to provide employment opportunities to Amerindian communities.

These partnerships have helped in the construction of infrastructure, such as pipe networks, bringing water directly to households in these areas.

The success of this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that sustainable water access is extended to all corners of the country, contributing to the economic growth and well-being of hinterland residents.
