Today, former squatters from Hill Foot, Soesdyke, who were recently evicted, received new house lots at the Kuru Kururu (Swan Turn) extension area.
This initiative aims to provide permanent housing solutions to those affected.
Minister Kwame McCoy emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring all citizens have access to land ownership.
He stated that building a country with squatters is unsustainable, hence the initiative to facilitate land ownership for everyone.
Minister McCoy also mentioned upcoming developments in the area that will enhance local fortunes and benefit residents.
Addressing the new landowners, Minister McCoy announced that next Tuesday, five banks would offer mortgages to those interested in acquiring homes.
He also noted the President’s commitment to subsidizing steel and cement for new homeowners.
Residents expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
Priscilla Holder thanked the government for their efforts, emphasizing the significance of the initiative for families like hers. Another resident, Marcia Gomes, expressed happiness and pride in owning land.
Kenneth Florriest also thanked the government for their support.
The allocation of these house lots is part of the government’s broader efforts to provide housing and land ownership opportunities nationwide.
