Compton Spareman, Chairman of the Recruitment and Training Board of the Guyana Fire Service, has underscored the importance of selecting highly qualified individuals for the fire service.

Addressing new recruits at a recent ceremony, Spareman emphasized the rigorous recruitment process and the commitment to maintaining high standards within the fire service.

Spareman noted that the recruitment process is both challenging and essential to ensure that only the most capable candidates are selected.

He highlighted the comprehensive nature of the recruitment process, which includes examinations, interviews, and strength tests.

This meticulous approach aims to ensure that recruits meet the high standards required for the demanding role of a firefighter.

During his address, Spareman also stressed the critical role of firefighters as first responders, emphasizing their responsibility to work collaboratively with other agencies.

He highlighted that the effectiveness of emergency response and community safety depends on their ability to protect lives and property, which underscores the importance of rigorous training.

Drawing on his 26 years of experience in the fire service, Spareman reminded the 97 new probationary firefighters that their journey begins now.

He urged them to uphold the values and responsibilities of their roles, reinforcing that their dedication is crucial for effective emergency response and the safety of the community.
