Hetmyer and Gurbaz Lead Guyana Amazon Warriors to Historic CPL Victory

In a stunning display of batting prowess, Shimron Hetmyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz guided the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a commanding 40-run victory over the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Match 7 of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

This performance marked a historic night for the Warriors, who reached the second highest total in CPL history with a score of 266 for 7.

The Amazon Warriors set the tone by opting to bat first, and despite early dismissals of Kevin Sinclair (17) and Shai Hope (12), Gurbaz and Hetmyer took charge.

Gurbaz dazzled with his aggressive hitting, amassing 69 runs, including several massive sixes, and forming a formidable partnership of 116 runs with Hetmyer.

Hetmyer continued the onslaught with an explosive 91 off 39 deliveries, hitting 11 sixes— the most by any player in the innings.

His innings included no boundaries, as he relied solely on sixes to amass his total.

Contributions from Keemo Paul (38), Ramon Reifer (14), and Dwaine Pretorius (13) added further depth to the Warriors’ formidable total.

In response, the Patriots struggled against the disciplined bowling of the Warriors.

Despite spirited efforts from Sherfane Rutherford (34), Mikyle Louis (31), Kyle Mayers (28), and a notable innings from captain Andre Fletcher (81), the Patriots fell short, bowled out for 226 in the 18th over.

Gudakesh Motie and team captain Imran Tahir were instrumental with the ball, each claiming three wickets to dismantle the Patriots’ batting lineup.

Hetmyer, reflecting on his performance, shared insights into his approach and how he focused on making a significant impact this season after a less successful stint last year.

The victory highlights the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ strength and sets a high benchmark for the rest of the CPL season.
