In the opening match of their tour of Pakistan in Karachi, the West Indies Women’s cricket team secured a commanding 113-run win, thanks to a stellar performance by Hayley Matthews.
Batting first, the Caribbean side got off to a strong start despite losing the early wicket of Rashada Williams in the third over.
Matthews, along with Shemaine Campbelle, led the charge, combining for a partnership of 102 runs before Campbelle’s dismissal in the 23rd over.
Although Stafanie Taylor’s departure soon followed, Matthews maintained her focus at the crease, eventually reaching an impressive 140 runs as the Windies women posted a total of 269 for eight.
Matthews also shone with the ball, taking three crucial wickets for just 17 runs in six overs.
Her outstanding performance restricted Pakistan to 156 runs, securing victory for the West Indies Women.
Reflecting on her innings, Matthews expressed satisfaction at being able to bat for the full 50 overs.
She commended the efforts of her teammates in achieving the win and emphasized the team’s focus on optimizing their opportunities in each match.
