Guyana’s Hatching Egg Project, which began in 2023, is set to reduce the country’s reliance on imports as local production continues to rise.
With over 27,000 hatching eggs produced so far, the initiative is positioned to help the country move toward self-sufficiency in the poultry industry.
Guyana currently imports approximately 53 million hatching eggs annually, facing challenges such as supply chain disruptions and rising costs.
The project aims to alleviate these issues by providing a sustainable local supply, with potential for future exports.
Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, emphasized that the project aligns with President Irfaan Ali’s vision for inclusive development and economic empowerment at the community level.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the livestock industry, improve food security, and contribute to the overall growth of Guyana’s agricultural sector.
The government remains committed to ensuring the success of the project, which plays a critical role in enhancing farm incomes and achieving sustainable economic growth.
