Workplaces are being put on notice by Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning Keoma Griffith, that the government will not tolerate acts of discrimination in workplaces against persons with disabilities and that once reported, strict actions will be taken.

At a job preparedness workshop, Minister Griffith emphasized that strict measures will be taken against employers who violate standards concerning persons with disabilities.

He urged anyone experiencing or witnessing such discrimination to report the matter directly to the Ministry for immediate action.

The policy on which this government has set out ensure that persons living with disabilities can have decent work and be comfortable in every environment that of course means that we do not discriminate at any level,” he explained.

The Ministry’s partners included ExxonMobil and the Guyana Council of Organizations for persons with Disabilities.

Meanwhile, several participants shared their personal goals and how the program has impacted them.

Sharing some of the impactful themes gleamed from the workshop, Roelle Summer told NCN: “I have learnt about the importance of being prepared for such a thing because job opportunities to persons with disabilities they are so vital.”

Cherie Ann Savoury said, “At this workshop I have learnt that how we can apply for jobs by writing out CV and resume and for a blind person. I have learned a lot.”

The workshop is expected to equip participants with interview techniques and professional relationship skill.

They will also learn to effectively utilize CVs, resumes, and cover letters from the workshop.
