GWI Undertakes Emergency Repairs for Ruptured Main in Kingston, Georgetown

In an urgent response, the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) initiated emergency repair operations to address a ruptured main near Battery Road in Kingston, Georgetown, close to the Pegasus Hotel and the Umana Yana.

The rupture, which occurred either overnight or early Sunday morning, severely impacted water supply to businesses and residences in the vicinity.

Aubrey Miller, the on-site supervisor, outlined the challenges faced by the GWI team in locating the exact source of the rupture.

He explained that the main is positioned beneath the pavement, making it more complex to identify and address the issue promptly.

As a result, areas including Pegasus experienced low water pressure, exacerbating the situation.

Additionally, GWI has advised residents of Central Georgetown about a planned water service disruption on Monday, October 16, from 22:00hrs, expected to last for approximately four hours.

This interruption is essential for the relocation and interconnection of transmission mains off the carriage way on Aubrey Barker Road.

The GWI team is working diligently to rectify the situation and restore regular water supply to the affected areas.
