GWI to Revolutionize Services with Smart Metering Technology

Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is poised to revolutionize its operations with the introduction of smart metering technology by the end of 2024.

The new technology aims to streamline water management, reduce manual meter reading efforts, and increase operational efficiency.

Chief Executive Officer of GWI, Shaik Baksh, announced the development during a recent press conference.

He outlined that 10,000 smart meters will be deployed in Georgetown, enabling more efficient monitoring of water usage without requiring personnel to visit each residence for manual readings.

This will also allow GWI to collect real-time data through a central system, enhancing billing accuracy and service quality.

Baksh highlighted that GWI’s improved financial standing has allowed the company to invest in advanced technologies.

Along with the smart meters, GWI is upgrading its Oracle business solutions, including improvements to its human resources and payroll systems.

These upgrades form part of a broader initiative to integrate new technologies into the company’s operations.

The introduction of smart meters is expected to lead to better customer service, increased operational transparency, and higher customer satisfaction.

This transition underscores GWI’s commitment to adopting modern solutions to enhance its services and maintain its position as a leading utility provider in Guyana.
