Lot Three Underway

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has embarked on the third phase of its Main Street Transmission Replacement Project, a significant step towards enhancing water infrastructure in the region.

Marlon Daniels, Director of Projects, provided exclusive insights to NCN News, shedding light on the extensive scope of the project.

The endeavor primarily focuses on the High Street Corridor, spanning from Lamaha Street to the renowned Pegasus Hotel.

This ambitious undertaking involves the installation of state-of-the-art High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, replacing antiquated cast iron counterparts, in order to ensure more efficient water transmission.

Director Daniels shared that the meticulous planning of the project encompasses a carefully choreographed schedule.

The intricate process involves joining the HDPE pipes during daylight hours, while the actual pipeline installation is orchestrated during the night.

This strategic approach aims to minimize disruptions to residents and other stakeholders along the corridor.

With a projected timeline of four months, the GWI team is dedicated to expeditious progress. Operations are slated to commence around 7/8 in the evening, with the goal of reinstating roadways by 5 in the morning, allowing for the uninterrupted flow of daily activities.

Anticipating the upcoming Cricket carnival period, Director Daniels expressed optimism about the prospect of accelerating excavation works and pipeline installation. With concerted effort, he aspires to complete this phase in just two months, culminating in the full restoration of the roadway.

Highlighting the company’s commitment to seamless service delivery, GWI assures citizens that every effort will be made to maintain the existing level and quality of service throughout the project’s duration. Director Daniels underscored the meticulous planning that has gone into identifying the precise location of existing lines, ensuring that the execution proceeds without major disruptions. Nevertheless, contingencies are in place to swiftly address any unforeseen circumstances.

The contract for this critical project, valued at approximately 85 million dollars, was awarded to C&L Construction Inc.

Meanwhile, Lots 1 and 2 are slated for implementation at a later date, further demonstrating GWI’s dedication to revitalizing the water infrastructure for the benefit of the community.
