Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is currently carrying out emergency repairs on leaking pipes along Avenue of The Republic, with crews working in front of the Deeds and Commercial Registry.
The work is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours.
Executive Director of Operations at GWI, Jawaharlall Ramjug, spoke about the ongoing efforts to repair the leaking pipeline.
“We have the hole open, which is indeed an inconvenience to the public, but after the repair, we need a drying time of 24 hours to prevent further leaks. The work will continue tonight, and we hope to backfill the location by midnight,” Ramjug explained.
Similar repair works have already been carried out, with one leak by Ashmins on Avenue of the Republic completed, and another by the National Library set to be fixed after this repair.
To ensure minimal disruption, the Guyana Police Force is assisting GWI with traffic management in this heavily trafficked area.
