Local businesses from Guyana showcased their products and secured promising deals at the recent Barbados AgroFest, signaling potential expansion opportunities in regional markets.

John Edghill, Senior Director for Investment at the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), reported that Guyanese companies received significant support at the event, with over 90% of their products and produce sold.

To ensure the remaining products are sold, local businesses struck a deal with the Barbadian online company Price World, facilitating further market penetration.

Additionally, TidyUp Gy, a subsidiary of Duane Trading Company and a local manufacturer of laundry detergents and related products, collaborated with Barbados-based Kemarone Enterprises to introduce a new product line called ‘O’ Clean’.

Under this partnership, product formulation will still occur in Guyana, but finishing and packaging will take place in Barbados.

Edghill emphasized the meticulous business-to-business connections forged by GO-Invest, facilitating such successful collaborations.

The Guyanese contingent at the Barbados AgroFest covered various sectors, including agro-processed goods, fresh produce, jewelry, furniture, and tourism services.

Tour operators also showcased their niche markets and services, highlighting the diverse range of offerings from Guyana.

Overall, the participation of Guyanese businesses in the Barbados AgroFest has not only facilitated immediate sales but also paved the way for long-term partnerships and market expansion opportunities in the region.
