In a thrilling display of athleticism, Guyanese sprinters Aliyah and Jasmine Abrams, alongside Emmanuel Archibald, showcased their prowess in the semifinals of the Pan Am Games, securing coveted spots in the upcoming finals.
Aliyah Abrams, competing in the women’s 400 meters event, delivered a stellar performance, clinching second place in the semifinals with a time of 51.82 seconds.
She trailed behind Chile’s Martina Weil, who secured the lead in a swift 51.47 seconds.
Ecuador’s Nicole Caicedo followed closely in third place, clocking in at 52.32 seconds.
Jasmine Abrams continued the impressive run for Guyana, dominating her 100m heat with an impressive time of 11.60 seconds, securing her position in the final.
Brazil’s Ana De Jesus and Yarima Garcia of Cuba followed in second and third place, respectively.
Regrettably, Keliza Smith, another talented Guyanese sprinter, finished 6th in the women’s 100m semifinal with a time of 11.78 seconds.
Despite her strong effort, Smith will not advance to the final. Mexico’s Cecillia Tamayo clinched victory in the race with a time of 11.66 seconds.
Emmanuel Archibald, the lone male sprinter representing Guyana, secured his place in the 100-meter final, finishing third with a time of 10.35 seconds.
He faced stiff competition, with Jose Gonzalez of the Dominican Republic leading in 10.30 seconds, closely followed by Brazil’s Felipe Bardi at 10.33 seconds.
Archibald expressed his determination, emphasizing that he gave his utmost despite the fierce competition.
The finals for the 100m events are scheduled for tonight.
Jasmine Abrams, positioned in lane 5, will represent Guyana in the Women’s 100m final at 19:55h.
Emmanuel Archibald will take to the track in lane 1 for the Men’s 100-meter final at 20:03h.
Aliyah Abrams is set to face the starter’s gun in the Women’s 400m final on Wednesday at 19:23h.
The Guyanese athletes’ exceptional performances have left fans and supporters eager to witness their pursuit of gold in the upcoming finals.
