The Guyana women’s hockey team narrowly missed reaching the finals of the ongoing Pan American Hockey Federation challenge series in Pembroke, Bermuda.

Head coach Phillip Fernandes expressed optimism about the team’s performance, noting their competitive spirit despite facing challenges in preparation due to inadequate training facilities.

In their only loss of the series, the team fell to Mexico, the tournament’s top-ranked team, with a score of 4-0.

This defeat resulted in Guyana dropping to third place in the standings, as Paraguay moved ahead on goal difference.

Before this match, Guyana secured a narrow victory over Brazil with a score of 1-0 and recorded draws against Paraguay and Bermuda.

The team is now set to compete for third place against Bermuda.

The top two teams, Mexico and Paraguay, will qualify for the upcoming Pan American Hockey Federation Cup scheduled for Uruguay in 2025, as well as the Hockey World Cup next year.

The Guyana women’s hockey team is sponsored by One Communications, and the challenge concludes today with the finals.
