In a surprising turn of events at the Cricket West Indies (CWU) female regional Under-19 tournament, Guyana’s winning streak has been halted by the Windward Islands.
The match, held at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in St. Augustine, Trinidad, saw the Windward Islands secure victory by two wickets.
The Guyanese team, opting to bat first, struggled significantly.
They were dismissed for just 60 runs in 18 overs, with no batter reaching double figures.
Extras contributed 13 runs to the total, highlighting the batting difficulties faced by the team.
Despite a valiant effort from the bowlers, including Nesha Alexander who took four wickets for eight runs and Selena Ross with three wickets for eight runs, the Windward Islands chased down the modest target of 61 runs.
Denella Creese played a pivotal role in securing the win for her team with a composed 25 runs, including three boundaries.
Guyana’s bowlers, including Nyia Latchman and Trisha Hardat with two wickets each, and Tramaine Marks and Danellie Manns with one wicket each, put up a strong fight.
However, the Windward Islands’ steady performance led them to victory.
Guyana, with 22.8 points, and the second-placed Leeward Islands, with 16.4 points, will face off in the final on Saturday to determine the tournament champion.
