Guyana’s athletics contingent is ready to make their mark at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Emmanuel Archibald, the 2023 Central America and Caribbean Games 100-meter Gold medalist, is set to compete in the semifinals this evening.

The Olympian is optimistic about his chances, attributing his strong preparation to being able to acclimatize in Chile.

While Archibald will also participate in the 200 meters, he has chosen to skip the long jump this year due to a prior injury.

Another Olympian, Aaliyah Abrams, is poised for the Women’s 400m semi-finals.

Alongside her sister Jasmine, who will also be representing Guyana, Aaliyah expresses confidence in her physical condition and readiness to give her all.

Aaliyah, a 400m specialist, has demonstrated her prowess this year by clinching first place at the NACAC New Life Invitational meet in the Bahamas with a national record time of 50.20 seconds.

Jasmine Abrams, a 100m sprinter, is equally determined to excel on the track.

She is also striving for qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Keliza Smith will also be competing in the Women’s 100m semi-finals this evening, adding to the promising lineup of Guyanese athletes.

As they gear up for their respective events, Guyana’s track stars aim to showcase their talent and determination on the international stage.
