President Dr. Irfaan Ali launched Guyana’s new Single Window System today, heralding it as a game-changer not only for the country but also for the wider Caribbean region.
Valued at $202 million, the system aims to streamline processes in the construction sector and boost economic efficiency.
Initially conceptualized with potential high recurring costs, the government opted for a collaborative approach with the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) and the Ministry of Housing to develop a cost-effective platform.
“We can now share, free of cost, this entire platform with the rest of our brothers and sisters in the region,” stated President Ali during the launch.
He emphasized the system’s scalability to accommodate Guyana’s future growth and its readiness for distribution to other regional countries to enhance their business indicators.
President Ali highlighted the Planning and Development Single Window System Act of 2023 as a crucial legislative framework.
He noted that the act underwent rigorous consultations to consolidate numerous plans, by-laws, and regulations under one umbrella legislation, ensuring agency independence and adherence to predefined timelines.
Describing the system as one of the most modern in the region, if not globally, President Ali outlined its capabilities to expedite the approval of building and planning permits nationwide within 30 to 45 days, significantly reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
In conclusion, the Single Window System is poised to revolutionize Guyana’s construction landscape and serves as a beacon for regional development through enhanced efficiency and transparency.
