January 10, 2025

The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has officially confirmed that Guyana’s Senior Men’s Basketball Team will participate in the upcoming Nations Cup tournament in Paramaribo, Suriname, from January 24 to 27.

The tournament will feature intense competition, with Guyana facing regional rivals Suriname and Grenada.

The Nations Cup is expected to be an exciting showcase of basketball talent from across the Caribbean.

To prepare for the event, the GBF has shortlisted 23 local players for trials, selecting individuals based on their strong performances in the ongoing One Guyana National Basketball League.

The team will be coached by Adrian Hooper, with Marlon Rodrigues serving as Assistant Coach and Warren Wilson as Team Manager.

The trials will be held this weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, where the final roster of 12 players will be selected.

Coach Hooper emphasized that the trials will be highly competitive, with each player earning their place through merit.

The Nations Cup will provide an opportunity for Guyana’s team to test their endurance, skills, and teamwork in back-to-back games against Suriname and Grenada.

The GBF views the tournament as a vital step in strengthening Guyana’s presence in Caribbean basketball and offering invaluable experience for players and coaching staff.

The GBF remains optimistic about Guyana’s potential to excel in the Nations Cup and in future basketball engagements throughout the year.
