Guyana’s senior chess team, led by national champion Taffin Khan, maintained their flawless record in the CARICOM Classic Chess Tournament, securing another impressive victory on Tuesday evening at the Ramada Princess Hotel.

Taffin Khan showcased his unbeatable form, securing yet another victory for Guyana by defeating Suriname’s Shaief Chashawa in the fourth round of the tournament.

FIDE Master Anthony Drayton contributed to the team’s success by defeating Jason Yeung, further solidifying Guyana’s position.

Shazeeda Rahim added to Guyana’s triumph by securing a victory against Suriname’s Maylee Tjong, while Women Candidate Master Jessica Callender faced a setback against Victoria Kaslan.

Despite this, Guyana emerged victorious with a 3 to 1 win over Suriname.

However, the national junior team faced tougher competition, managing only half a point in their clash against St. Lucia, resulting in a 3 ½ to 1/2 loss.

The sole point came from Kyle Couchman, who secured a draw against Justin James.

In earlier rounds, the seniors continued their winning streak by defeating St. Lucia 3-1, while the juniors faced defeat against Jamaica.

As the competition progresses, Guyana remains steadfast in their pursuit of victory, fielding two teams in the tournament as the host nation.

With rounds 5 and 6 scheduled to resume on Thursday, teams are gearing up for intense battles as they vie for victory in the nine-round tournament.

Amidst stiff competition, Guyana’s senior chess team’s outstanding performance underscores their dominance in the CARICOM Classic Chess Tournament, showcasing the country’s prowess on the international stage.
