Masters powerlifters Roger Rogers and Nadina Taharally have achieved remarkable success at the International Powerlifting Federation’s South African Powerlifting Federation’s World Masters and Commonwealth Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Championships.
The prestigious event, which commenced on October 5 in Sun City, South Africa, showcased their impressive talents on an international stage.
In the Masters Two Men’s Over 50 category, Roger Rogers competed against eight athletes from around the globe and four from the Commonwealth.
He secured the overall bronze medal in the world competition, finishing behind Great Britain’s Simon Scott and Greville Darren.
Rogers also excelled in the Commonwealth segment, where he claimed silver overall.
His accolades included a silver medal in squat, a bronze in deadlift, and another silver in bench press.
Meanwhile, Nadina Taharally competed in the Masters Two Women’s Over 50, 76 kg class, where she made a significant impact.
She won the Commonwealth squat gold medal, alongside a bronze in bench press and a silver in deadlift, culminating in an overall gold medal for her category.
In the world championship segment, Taharally finished third, securing a bronze medal in squat.
Her performance included a challenging showdown with Hungary’s Anna Sashegyi, where she achieved an impressive 402-pound deadlift to clinch the overall bronze medal.
Taharally ultimately finished third behind the USA’s Iannotta Joah and Great Britain’s Heather Tag.
The competition will continue until Sunday, with Bjorn (Jorn) Williams representing Guyana in upcoming events.
