Guyana’s tourism and hospitality sector is poised for substantial growth in 2024, with the creation of over 1300 new high-class hotel rooms and increased airlifts, according to President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Georgetown Seafront Resort, President Ali highlighted the significant boost expected in Guyana’s tourism infrastructure.
The Georgetown Seafront Resort alone will contribute 400 rooms upon completion, symbolizing the country’s commitment to becoming a world-class tourism destination.
President Ali further disclosed that construction is underway for 10 internationally branded hotels, which will further bolster Guyana’s room stock and enhance its capacity to host major events.
Notable developments include the Aiden Best Western in Georgetown, set to open in June with 150 rooms, and the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel at Timehri, among others.
Local investments in hospitality infrastructure are also on the rise, with projects like the King’s Hotel in progress.
President Ali revealed that proposals for additional hotel projects are under consideration, signaling continued growth in the sector.
In addition to the expansion of hotel accommodations, Guyana can anticipate increased airlifts, with seat capacity projected to exceed 100,000 per year.
Initiatives like Sky High are expected to create 15,000 new seats annually, while airlines such as United and American have announced new services, adding 137,000 seats to the market in 2024.
To address the human resource needs of these developments, President Ali highlighted efforts to train over 6000 individuals in tourism and hospitality in 2023, with ongoing training initiatives planned.
President Ali emphasized that these investments, coupled with advancements in ecotourism and infrastructure, will elevate Guyana as a premier tourism destination on the global stage.
With over $250 million USD invested by both local and international private sectors, Guyana’s hospitality sector is poised for unprecedented growth and development, solidifying its position as a key player in the regional tourism landscape.
