Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, Adviser to the Health Minister, affirmed that Guyana’s healthcare system will not become an experimental specimen under the PPP/C government.
In response to concerns raised on the televised show ‘The Guyana Dialogue’ about potential international bodies influencing the country’s healthcare policies, Dr. Ramsammy emphasized the government’s responsibility to govern and protect citizens’ welfare.
He stated that no external institution will be allowed to control or alter the healthcare policy in place.
Dr. Ramsammy highlighted the numerous partnerships with international medical institutions, emphasizing that these collaborations aim for mutual benefits rather than allowing external entities to dictate policies.
Guyana has been actively engaging in partnerships for training and support in various healthcare sectors, leading initiatives and advancements.
Dr. Ramsammy assured that these partnerships are designed to enhance the country’s healthcare system without compromising its autonomy.
In the 2024 budget, the government has allocated $129.8 billion to further transform the health sector, aiming to meet world-class standards and ensure the well-being of the Guyanese population.
The commitment to maintaining control over healthcare policies reflects the government’s dedication to prioritizing the health and safety of its citizens.
