The government is advancing efforts to expand Guyana’s downstream industries through the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project, with a focus on local and regional investment, industrial development, and new export markets.
The initiative aims to lower production costs, create new industries, and strengthen Guyana’s position as an energy supplier.
As the project progresses into its second phase, plans are underway to maximize its downstream benefits.
One key opportunity includes fertilizer production, as the gas supply from the project will be sufficient to support a small plant.
This is expected to significantly reduce agricultural costs, benefiting farmers and boosting the sector’s productivity.
In addition to agriculture, the GTE project is set to lower the cost of cooking gas for households and businesses.
The increased supply is also expected to position Guyana as a potential exporter to regional markets, including northern Brazil, where demand remains high.
Phase 1 of the Gas-to-Energy project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year, with a substantial increase in energy capacity.
Phase 2, anticipated by 2026 or 2027, will expand power generation and natural gas processing, further solidifying Guyana’s role as a key regional energy player.
