President Irfaan Ali has announced the creation of Guyana’s first-ever climate-smart farm, which will be fully operated by persons living with disabilities.

The initiative is aimed at combining sustainable farming practices with social responsibility, transforming both the agricultural sector and the workforce by providing employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities.

The farm will offer accessible workspaces and specialized training, equipping participants with valuable skills to enhance their independence and contribute to the economy.

The produce from the farm will be marketed directly to the public, with a special section in supermarkets dedicated to these items, allowing consumers to support the farm with a social conscience.

In addition to the farm, the president also pledged to provide five specialized buses to assist the disabled community in their daily lives.

This initiative has been warmly welcomed by Ganesh Singh, the Programme Manager at the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons with Disabilities, who has advocated for such measures to aid mobility.

This project marks a significant step towards greater inclusion and empowerment for persons with disabilities in Guyana, aligning with broader efforts to promote sustainability and social equity.
